The etched image of the church published by the Illustrated London News, May 4, 1867 with the news ‘...Its erection does much credit to the zeal of the English and other Protestants of Smyrna; but they are obliged to appeal to their friends at home for assistance, as there is a debt of £500 still resting on the church; the principal cause of this debt having been the difficulty and delay in procuring workmen during the time the cholera was raging in that country in 1865. As the first Protestant church built in that ancient seat of Christianity where the apostle John resided and preached, and Polycarp suffered martyrdom, there is a peculiar interest attached to this structure, and it is suggested by our correspondent, Mr. J. Crick, the honorary treasurer, that many rich and liberal Christians in England would gladly help to liquidate the amount still due if the case was brought before them. Any subscriptions paid into the London branch of the Imperial Ottoman Bank, to the credit of the Boudjah Church Building Fund, would be thankfully acknowledged’.

Les soussignés, nommes membres du Comité chargé de la reconstruction de la Chapelle Protestante, sise au village de Bouja, ont l’honneur de porter à la connaissance de Votre Excéllence, que cette Chapelle éleve depuis trente ans menace ruine aujourd’hui, et se trouve dans une si mauvais état qu’il est dangereus de s’y réussir pour célébrer le Service Religieux.
2me cette Chapelle mesure en longeur pics vingt quatre, en largeur pics vingt, et en hauteur dix.
2me on se propose de reconstruire la dite Chapelle sur même emplacement, mais en lui donnant une longeur de pics vingt sept, une largeur de pics quatorze, et une hauteur de pics douze.
2me cette Chapelle sera affectée au culte de la Congrégation Protestante, comme elle l’est depuis trente ans; de même que le terrain dans le quel est placée continuera à servir comme par le placé de lieu de Sépulture pour les personnel décédées de cette Communion.
En conséquence, les soulignés prient Votre Excéllence de vouloir bien leur accorder les pouviers officiels qu’elle croira nécésaires pour les mêttre à même de s’emplir la tache qui leur a été confiée.

To his Excellency Cabouli Pasha, Governor General of the Province of Smyrna:

The undersigned, nominated members of the Committee charged with the reconstruction of the Protestant Chapel, in the village of Boudjah, have the honour of informing His Excellency that this Chapel, that has been erected 30 years ago, is in a such a poor state that it is dangerous to celebrate Religious Services there.
This Chapel measures 24 [?] in length, 20 [?] in width, and 10 [?] in height.
We propose to rebuild this Chapel in the same place, but lengthening it to 27 [?] and a width to 14 [?] and a height of 12 [?].
This Chapel will continue as it has done for the past thirty years, the Protestant congregation, and the same ground for the burial of persons of this communion.
As a consequence, the undersigned begs of His Excellency of providing the official sanction necessary for this to be done.
